Character name: Roxas
Age: 16? (Technically Roxas has existed for a year, but has the appearance/mentality of a 15-16 year old boy, matching Sora, his other. The timeline gets a little weird.)
Canon: Kingdom Hearts
Canon point: Post KH2 Prologue
History: Wiki Link

Three key adjectives: Determined, Melancholy, Loyal

Influential Events:
1. Meeting Axel and Xion
When Roxas is accepted into the Organization, he is essentially a blank slate, with no real memories of his previous self or how he got there. He is, for the most part, a zombie who simply does what he is told. However, through his interactions with Axel and other members of the Organization, Roxas begins to develop more of a personality, with elements such as a sense of humour, a sense of determination and earnestness, and the ability to understand and discern the world around him. For example, he quickly picks up that Axel is actually a pretty decent person, more than the other members of the Organization, since he seems to care about Roxas's wellbeing. It's from Axel that Roxas also learns the value of taking a break and being able to take detours once the work is done, the "icing on the cake" as it were. The kindness that Axel shows Roxas is something that imprints on him, and he is able to pay it forward in his dealings with Xion, inviting her up to the clocktower for ice cream.

Roxas's friendships with Axel and Xion are extremely important to him, especially since he doesn't really have a context for other kinds of relationships. He is loyal to them both, and would go out of his way to help them, an example being the way he helps Xion out on missions by lending her his keyblade. He is probably at his happiest when he can be with them, sharing ice cream and being at ease. As such, when tension occurs or argument happens, Roxas can be seen getting rather nervous. He doesn't like seeing his friends upset or hurting. When Xion disappears from the Organization, he forgoes his usual ice cream to search the worlds for her and he worries constantly when Axel doesn't immediately return from Castle Oblivion.

2.Leaving the Organization/Fight with Xion
Roxas's decision to leave the Organization is influenced by a number of things. The first is his friendship with Xion, that even when faced with the truth that she is merely a replica and not even a proper Nobody, never mind that she was deliberately designed to drain him of his power and take his place. He still sees her as a friend first and that loyalty overrides anything else. His friendship with Axel is also at stake, as he feels that Axel betrayed him by not telling him the truth about Xion. This can be broadened into a general dislike of being manipulated and bent to the will of others, and he responds with strong rebellion. At the same time, his anger makes him impulsive, leading to snap decisions. He loses out on an opportunity to make up with Axel and exactly how he's going to learn about the keyblade is something he wonders once he makes it to Twilight Town and has a chance to calm down. Having always been with his friends, being on his own is something that is new to Roxas, and he isn't quite sure how to deal with that.

It should also be noted that Roxas was deliberately targeted by Organization XIII due to his connection to Sora. Roxas is a unique Nobody, in that he was seemingly able to actually feel emotions where Nobodies can't due to their lack of a heart. Usually Nobodies act or provide a facsimile of emotions, but Roxas is seen acting out of pure anger, or shedding tears at various points in his short life.

His fight with Xion is a confusing one for Roxas. He has no desire to fight his friends, and has no idea that it is all an act on Xion's part so that the memories within her can be set free. While Roxas is ultimately the victor, it comes at the cost of Xion's life and everyone's memories of her. However, even as she fades away, Roxas is still trying to help her and hold on to her, knowing vaguely that she is important to him. However, once he is taken to the Digital Twilight Town, he loses the memories of her entirely. Roxas is essentially made into a pawn at this point, as it is more for Xion's sake that this fight occurs. But we also see that Roxas is willing to fight for his existence, even if he'd rather resolve things peacefully, especially with a friend.

3.Digital Twilight Town
Roxas's time in the Digital Twilight Town allows us to see a slightly different side of him. Rather than being a member of Organization XIII, we get to see Roxas as a normal kid, living a normal life. He hangs out with his friends, enjoying their last week of summer vacation with no memories of his previous life. His relationships to Hayner, Pence and Olette are similar to the ones he had with Axel and Xion, in his loyalty to them, as well as his willingness to go out of his way to help them. We also see a more responsible side of Roxas as he does his best to reign in Hayner and works to find compromise between him and Olette (particularly over when they're going to do their homework). He also doesn't suffer bullies, and stands up to the more abrasive Seifer and his group. He's also shown to have a competitive streak, particularly in the struggle match, and is quite athletic.

However, as the weird things continue throughout the week, they start to take an effect on Roxas. This includes weird dreams about a boy he doesn't know, seeing people and strange beings that no one else sees, and noticing things like the digital world glitching out. This weirdness, for lack of a better term, agitates Roxas, often causing him to run off or try to deal with it on his own. However this creates tension between him and his friends, as they perceive him as running off to do things without them with little explanation, or potentially hanging out with Seifer's group. It's especially hard for Roxas, since he has a hard time explaining what's going on and these things only seem to be happening to him. As much as he worries about his friends, Roxas tends to have a hard time with letting people worry about him. At the same time, they are quick to forgive and do want to help and Roxas often reaches out them as a grounding point, especially as the weirdness increases.

He also encounters Axel during this time, who is trying to retrieve Roxas for the Organization. As Roxas does not remember him, their meetings are often contentious and confusing for Roxas. Once these memories are regained, and he remembers that he and Axel were best friends he still ends up fighting him, not wanting to return to the Organization.

Perhaps the most significant moment during this time is when Namine reaches out to Roxas. She is the one who informs him of his connection to Sora and the fact that he was not meant to exist. While it is a limited explanation, she also tells him that by going back to Sora, they'll both be whole. It causes a lot of confusion for Roxas, especially since he starts to wonder about what that all means. The question of Roxas and his existence is one that plagues him, especially since, as mentioned before, he can't really talk about it with his friends. He is also conflicted in the fact that he wants to keep existing, but recognizes that there's someone else, Sora, who needs him.

4.Meeting Sora
Roxas finally finding the sleeping Sora is something that is a long time coming, especially since he is the answer to a lot of the questions that plague him. At this point, Sora occupies an odd place in Roxas's life, as Roxas has been having dreams about him and flashes of memory. Without Roxas, Sora can't awaken, even if it comes at the price of Roxas's existence. There's a sense of resentment, especially when Roxas is taunted by DiZ and he responds with his usual defiance. Roxas wants to continue to exist and simply being treated as this missing part of Sora doesn't sit well with him. DiZ can only hope that Roxas's anger influences Sora somehow. Even though Sora is important to a lot of people, he is something of a mystery to Roxas and it's difficult for him to be passed over and his existence thought of as so little compared to his Other.

It's worth noting that while Roxas can technically be seen as Sora's other half, he is not Sora's opposite. He's more of a muted version of Sora. Where Sora is a very bright and friendly individual who gets along easily with others, Roxas is more withdrawn and a bit more melancholy (at least from the canon point he's coming from being weighed down with a few questions). He tends to think a bit more about his actions and isn't as quick to spring into action. However, he shares his loyalty and willingness to do anything for his friends with Sora. Ultimately, Roxas cannot escape his fate and rejoins with Sora, which he does with a heavy heart. Even though he wishes to continue being his own person, a part of him recognizes that Sora is needed.

Chosen path: Fighter
3 Abilities: Keyblade (Kingdom Key form with Fire and Blizzard), Champion, Sonic Blade
Why this path?: I like the idea of Roxas as a fighter. I feel that the class plays into a lot of his strengths, particularly his athleticism, dual wielding capabilities, and ability to keep a cool head in a fight. He's a straightforward character after all, coming from a game where a central mechanic is to whack things with your sword shaped like a key. While he possesses an affinity for magic as per the game, Roxas is less a character to rely on that (as opposed to a character like Donald Duck, for example). Not to mention that through fighting heartless and taking missions for the Organization, he already has some experience of a sort.

Given the canon point I'm taking him from, Roxas is in a tenuous place with regards to his existence and if he's even allowed to be able to exist. He's torn between wanting to exist as an individual and his connection to Sora. He's getting the short end of the stick in a lot of ways, which has made him very unsure of himself, especially since he's been the one pulled in to work for the Bureau, as opposed to Sora (who's the hero technically). As a Fighter, I feel this will allow him to gain experience and grow into someone who can assume the mantle of hero in his own right, and be able to trust in his own abilities. Skills such as Rustic Hospitality and Improvised Weapon, for example, will allow him to become a versatile ally on the battlefield and get better at dealing with people in general.

While it seems rather straightforward, I'm drawn to the idea of Roxas as a Fighter and how the class is going to help him grow as a person.
